The Reporting module presents your ledger as financial reports. Because every invoice, bill, bank transaction and journal posts to the same ledger, reports are current as soon as a transaction is approved or reconciled. Marbles provides the core financial statements, aged receivables and payables, and the ledger reports your accountant relies on at period end.
Select Reporting in the main menu. The module opens with tabs for the three reports used most often, Cashflow, P&L and Balance sheets, followed by All reports.
Reports are prepared from posted journal entries on an accruals basis: income is reported when it is invoiced and expenses when they are billed. Draft documents and documents awaiting approval are not included, because they have not yet been posted to the ledger. Report dates follow the time zone set under Settings > Financial settings.
All reports groups reports under headings such as Financial statements, Payables and receivables, Reconciliations and Taxes and balances. Select a heading to expand it, or use Search for report to find a report by name.
Select the heart beside a report to add it to Favourites at the top of the page. Favourites are saved in your browser, so they apply to the device you are using. A report shown greyed out is not yet available and cannot be opened.
Each report has a Filters panel. The options offered depend on the report.
| Option | Purpose |
|---|---|
| As of | The date of a point-in-time report, such as the Balance Sheet, Trial Balance and the aged reports. |
| Date range | The period of a report that covers a span of time. Choose This month, Last month, This financial year, Last financial year or a Custom range with From and To dates. |

Financial year presets follow the financial year end set under Settings > Financial settings. The default display options for all users are set under Settings > Reporting preferences.
The Profit and Loss reports income and expenses for a period, with a column for each month. Accounts are grouped by account type.
| Section | Account types included |
|---|---|
| Trading Income | Revenue and Sales |
| Cost of Sales | Direct Costs |
| Other Income | Other Income |
| Operating Expenses | Expense, Overhead and Depreciation |
Gross profit is trading income less cost of sales. Net profit adds other income and deducts operating expenses. A chart above the statement compares income, expenses and net profit by month.
The Balance Sheet lists assets, liabilities and equity as at a date. Two equity lines are calculated by Marbles. Current Year Earnings is the net profit from the start of the financial year to the report date. Retained Earnings includes the net profit of all earlier years. Net assets therefore always equal total equity. A chart shows assets and liabilities over time.
The Statement of Cash Flows explains the movement in your bank balances over a period, from the Opening balance to the Closing balance. Movements are grouped under Operating activities, Investing activities and Financing activities, and a chart shows the positive and negative movements that make up the change.
Aged Receivables lists the invoices customers have yet to pay. Aged Payables lists the bills you have yet to pay. Both are prepared as at a date and grouped by contact, with each amount placed in a column according to how far it is past its due date.
| Column | Contents |
|---|---|
| Current | Not yet due. |
| 1 - 30 days | Up to 30 days past the due date. |
| 31 - 60 days | 31 to 60 days past the due date. |
| 61 - 90 days | 61 to 90 days past the due date. |
| > 90 days | More than 90 days past the due date. |
Select a contact to list the documents behind its totals, with each document's number, issue date, due date and amount due.
The General Ledger lists the transactions posted to the accounts you choose. Select Add account to add one or more accounts, then set the date range. For each account, the report shows the Opening balance, each transaction with its date, source, description, reference, debit and credit, a running Balance, and the total and closing balance.
The Journal Report lists every journal entry posted in a period, with the accounts debited and credited by each entry. It includes entries created by invoices, bills, payments, bank reconciliation and depreciation as well as manual journals.
The Trial Balance lists the debit or credit balance of every account as at a date, together with year-to-date debits and credits. Total debits equal total credits.
Every role, including Reader, can run reports. Reports never change your books.
